Aion 2 Shugo Festival Guide: Timer, Keys and Shop for Max Rewards

From the Global client and our own play · Updated

For both factions on the Global release.

Every hour, on the hour

The Shugo Festival is nine short minigames that open every hour, on the hour; you pick one and play it. You don't need to learn all nine games: get good at one and play it every hour. It pays only through reward cards, and each card you pick costs a Shugo Festival Reward Key. With no key, you get no card rewards, whatever your place. You get 3 keys a day, so your rewards come down to spending every key, placing high enough to use them all, and buying the right things with the tokens.

Pick one game and get good at it, spend your 3 keys a day there, and buy the first 20 Daevanion Crystals, then Stigma Shards.

When the Shugo Festival starts

Every hour at :00 server time. Registration stays open for 3 minutes, then the game runs for 3 to 5 minutes. Global's server clock is UTC+9, so a festival starts at every full hour UTC: on the hour for most players, but at half past in India (UTC+5:30), for example. The countdown above shows the next start in your own clock.

Open it from the main menu: Content, then Shugo Festival. The Shugo Festival tab shows the countdown and your keys; the Festival Shop tab is where the tokens go.

The main menu's Content section, with Shugo Festival circled

It opens at level 10, with the main story quest Visions in Smoke (Elyos) or Urgent Pursuit (Asmodian).

All nine games open every hour, and you pick one, so you only need to be good at one: Jump Jump, Wraith Evasion, Mysterious Track, Hidden Lugi, Odyle Flight Frenzy, Goldrin's Treasure, Defend Shugo Merchants, Up! Up! Up! or Not This Tile?. Two more in the game files, Nyerk Shooter and Shugo's Dilemma, have no reward cards at all.

How keys, places and cards work

After a game, Rewards opens the Monster Cube screen: five face-down cards. Your place sets how many you may pick, and each card you pick costs a key. In a 4-player Jump Jump (it takes up to 4):

PlaceCards you may pick
1st4
2nd3
3rd3
4th2
The card screen after a first place in Jump Jump: Can select 4 time(s), with 3 of 21 keys held
  • No key, no reward. The game says so: "Insufficient Reward Keys to receive a reward." A finish without a key pays no card rewards, whatever other guides say.
  • 3 keys a day, at the daily reset (07:00 UTC). You can hold 12, or 21 with Special Quai Membership, and a key past that is lost. Membership raises the cap, not the 3 a day.
  • Keys are shared by all your characters on a server, but tokens and the shop's limits are each character's. Pick cards on the character the tokens help most, usually your main.
  • Cancelling a selection keeps the key.
  • Score too little and you get nothing, keys or not: "Insufficient Basic Score to receive rewards."

Every card pays its Basic Rewards, which grow with your level:

Your levelCenturyroot TokensEnhance Stones
10 to 1540100
16 to 2040150
21 to 2540200
26 to 3540300
36 to 4040500
41 to 4440700
45 and up50700

Each card also rolls gear, Odyle, refining stones and Abyss Points. The Reward Highlights are spread over the five cards, each item behind just one of them, so the more cards you pick, the more you get. At level 45 they hold 30 to 100 more tokens (40 on average), 1,200 Enhance Stones, 3 Soul Codex and 800 Abyss Points.

How to get the most rewards

Your rewards are the cards you pick, so the aim is to pick one with every key, every day.

  1. Get good at one game; you don't need all nine. You choose the game every hour, so play the one you place highest in, every time. We play Jump Jump: it takes at most 4 players, so even 4th place picks 2 cards.
  2. Place for the keys you hold. In Jump Jump, 3rd place uses a day's 3 keys. With more, after a few days away or saved up, 1st place picks 4 cards a game and 4th only 2: 12 saved keys take three 1st places, or four 2nd or 3rd places. Other games may give each place a different number.
  3. Don't let keys sit at the cap. At 12 (21 with membership), the next day's 3 are lost.
  4. A low place doesn't make a card worth less. Every place picks from the same tables; it only lets you pick fewer.
  5. Once, play each game 3 times. Your first three games of each kind pay 20, 40 and 85 tokens and 2,000, 4,000 and 8,000 Kina, plus a title: 1,305 tokens and 126,000 Kina for all nine. Your 300th game in all brings 590 tokens and 105 Soul Crystals more.

Here is how we place first in Jump Jump.

Jump Jump: how to place first

The rules, in the game's words: "Dodge the lasers and collect the festival balloons! Earn points for every balloon you collect. Watch out! Touching a laser will cost you points." A round lasts 2 minutes 55 seconds.

  1. Hold space; don't chase. Stand where you are the nearest player to as much of the floor as you can, so whatever spawns there is yours first. When the others bunch up, take the middle of the empty side.
  2. Golden balloons come three at a time, around a bomb. Take all 3 and tank the bomb's fear, or, if no one is near, wait for it to pop and take them after. How long you can wait depends on how far you are and whether others are diving in.
  3. Keep off the lasers. Every hit costs points.
Jump Jump with 1 minute 46 left: the other three players crowd one corner, and the shaded floor, about three quarters of it, is closer to us than to anyone

Played this way, we won with 1,390 and 1,400 points, more than twice second place both times.

Event Results: first with 1,390 points, ahead of 760, 660 and 420
Event Results: first with 1,400 points, ahead of 530, 500 and 320

What to buy in the Festival Shop

The Festival Shop is the only place to spend Centuryroot Tokens on Global. Its Consumables tab:

ItemTokensLimit
Daevanion Crystal5010 per character
10010 per character
20015 per character
40015 per character
Stigma Shard30035 per character
Soul Crystal ×1005030 a month
Radiant Odyle1,0003 a month
Empathy Candy20No limit
The Festival Shop's Consumables tab: Daevanion Crystal at step 3 of 4, Soul Crystal, Stigma Shard, Empathy Candy and Radiant Odyle
  1. The first 20 Daevanion Crystals. Each one you spend is 1 gear score, and the first 20 cost 50 and 100 tokens each, 1,500 in all (see the gear score guide).
  2. Then Stigma Shards, 300 tokens each, up to 35. Past 20, a crystal costs 200 or 400, so the other 30 can wait.
  3. Skip the Soul Crystals. A keyed Hidden Cube pays 1,000 at once; the shop's 30 a month add up to 3,000 for 1,500 tokens. See the Hidden Cube guide.
  4. Then wings, then artworks. Each wing sells once per character: Violet Butterfly Wings 2,100, Spirit Wings 4,200 and Springflower Butterfly Wings 8,350. Most artworks cost 2,000, the gold-framed one 10,000; each adds Pantheon stats, and 7 of them earn the Scenery Collector title (PvE Damage Boost 3.3%, Block Penetration 54).

Skins come last: they cost the most, up to 24,900 tokens for a set.

Common mistakes

  • Playing without keys. You get no card rewards, even for first place.
  • Picking cards on an alt the tokens don't help. The keys are your server's; the tokens stay with whoever picks the card.
  • Using other regions' numbers. Korea and Taiwan run their own servers and shops. Global's shop has no Wisdom Stones or Soul Codex, whatever some guides list.
